I live and work in Berkhamsted, and my relevant qualifications are: ‘O’ Level in art, PGCE, and more recently, 2 certificates from West Herts College in watercolour, design and mixed media, and advanced watercolour. I exhibit my work regularly in local Art Society exhibitions and galleries, and in Herts Open Studios.
Media and Style:
I work in any medium that is not oil-based. This means that I prefer not to paint in oils, but I do work in: watercolours, acrylics, pastels, gouache, collage, charcoal, encaustic wax, acrylic inks, Brusho, watercolour pencils, writing ink and bleach, cyanotype photograms (blueprints) ………….., plus any likely or even unlikely combination from the list, in representational or abstract form.
My work is often described as ‘bold’, which means I love strong, definite colours and contrasts – although I am equally at home with working in soft pastel colours when it’s appropriate! I particularly enjoy using texturing techniques in watercolours, and combining watercolours with gouache and pastels. And encaustic wax and Brusho are my latest enthusiasms which I am enjoying exploring.
Although I have highlighted painting from photos, I can of course work from real life, use my imagination, and paint en plein air as well!
Dependent on size, medium/media and complexity of subject, but typically in the region of £85, unframed. I will set the price and time-scale for completion, when discussing your commission. I can also assist you in getting your painting framed locally.
I can work in any way you would like me to. You can choose the medium/media, size and type of paper, form, colours, and so on; or you can leave it to me to use my judgment. I am at your service.
